Services provided to members include:
Communication: FWC produces the Fax Tree, a vehicle
to disseminate time-sensitive information to its members regarding
upcoming bids and important meetings. FWC also produces its
Newsletter, a bi-monthly publication containing corporate and
legislative information, a calendar of events, meetings and
seminars, and program-specific articles. Additionally, over 2,500
copies of FWC's membership directory are distributed to majority
contractors, property owners, and federal, state and local
government agencies.
Legislative Lobbying: FWC advocates for its members
through political and economic empowerment and in conjunction with a
strong network of allied associations in the construction industry
and other women's business organizations. FWC is committed to
advocating for equal access to business opportunities in a
diversified marketplace.
Networking: Monthly dinner meetings are held locally for
members allowing the sharing of information on upcoming projects and
problems encountered in owning or managing a member firm. FWC's
annual fundraiser, Annual Awards Reception, is attended by
many majority contractors, suppliers and property owners allowing
members to solidify business contacts. FWC also participates several
times a year in the activities of affiliated organizations.
Public Participation: FWC participates on many committees
and advisory boards for private and public projects such as: the ABN
AMRO Technology Center, the Chicago Lakefront Partners for Economic
Empowerment Contracting Committee (Soldier Filed), the Chicago
Public Schools' Capital Improvement Program Blue Ribbon Advisory
Committee and the UIC South Campus Development Contracting
Committee. Participation on these committees ensures FWC member
opportunities on major construction projects.
Plan Room: Blueprints/plans and bid specifications for
most public and some private-area projects are available for
inspection by FWC's membership in its Chicago office.
Education: Industry-related seminars are sponsored by FWC.
Speakers at meetings include general contractors and service-related
firms, as well as industry experts presenting timely information
that will further your business opportunities. FWC is governed by a
fifteen-member Board of Directors. FWC's office is staffed by an
Executive Director and support staff.
