Buyer McCormick Place

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Buyer at the McCormick Place Facility. The Buyer will be responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, supplies and services from vendors to meet the needs of user departments within the McCormick Place Facility while ensuring SMG policies, procedures and statues are observed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with the procurement of high quality goods and services on a timely basis consistent with established policies and procedures.

Assists in the planning and preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFP’s), bid documents and Invitation for Bids ("IFB’s") in line with statutes and sound purchasing practices:

o Plans for future bids/proposals based on user needs and review of the Contract Listings at least 6 – 9 months prior to expiration.

o Works with user departments to prepare appropriate bid and proposal specifications.

o Coordinates response to questions from vendors concerning bids/proposals.

o Evaluates proposals for statutory and business requirements.

o Guides and assists user departments in the business and technical evaluation of the bids/proposals.

  •  Assists Manager in analyzing all bid results and completion of administrative processes to prepare recommendation to user departments.
  • Determines appropriate sources for purchase of goods and maintains cooperative working relations with vendors to stay current with trends and technologies, products and services.
  • Assists Manager in analytical review, recordkeeping and managing of all vendor contracts.

  • Identifies and recommends opportunities to reduce costs through the procurement of goods and services.

  • Serves as liaison to vendors and user departments by providing guidance relating to purchasing procedures and issues associated with contracts and/or bids.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University in Procurement/Materials Management, Finance, Public or Business Administration or a related field; or equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work related experience within purchasing and/or contract administration and negotiation including experience in the preparation of bid documents and proposals.
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of PC software, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Solomon system a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business judgments.
  • Ability to take tasks that are not clearly defined and appropriately define problems and propose and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to interact with all levels of staff including management.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours that may vary due to functions and may include day, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be capable and willing to do excessive walking and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours commensurate with outreach event schedules and event needs.
